Each year at The Kind Event, Texas Health Action brings together patients, providers, volunteers, partners, and supporters to celebrate how our programs Kind Clinic and Waterloo Counseling Center are transforming lives and advancing healthcare access across Texas. As part of that tradition, we honor individuals whose leadership has shaped our organization and strengthened the communities we serve through our annual Kindness in Action recognition.

More than an award, Kindness in Action is an opportunity to preserve the stories behind the progress. Through these conversations, we are building an archive of the people, partnerships, and moments that have expanded access to affirming healthcare for LGBTQIA+ communities and people impacted by HIV across Texas.

Last year, our inaugural honorees, Dr. Cynthia Brinson and Mark Erwin, helped tell the founding story of Texas Health Action—capturing the vision, leadership, and community commitment that laid the foundation for the organization we know today.

This year, we continued that story by honoring Dr. David Wright and Tim Young.

For more than a decade, Dr. Wright has provided compassionate, affirming care to thousands of patients, embodying the belief that healthcare is built on trust, dignity, and human connection. Tim Young’s story reflects another essential part of our history. Through his leadership with the Hill Country Ride for AIDS, he helped establish Texas Health Action as an independent nonprofit organization and strengthen the partnerships that continue to advance HIV services and community health across Texas. Together, their experiences highlight how lasting impact is created—not only through care delivery, but through the community organizations, advocates, volunteers, and supporters who make that care possible.

Texas Health Action is committed to building a living archive of the people who have shaped healthcare access in Texas. Their stories remind us that progress is never the work of one person alone. It is built through countless acts of kindness, leadership, and service that ripple across generations. These four honorees represent the beginning of that story. As The Kind Event returns each Pride Month, we will continue documenting the individuals whose contributions have transformed healthcare access and helped build a kinder model of care for communities across Texas.

A Decade of Dedication

Since its founding, Kind Clinic has been committed to breaking barriers in healthcare access, creating spaces where queer people can receive affirming care without judgment. What started as the Austin PrEP Access Project (APAP) has evolved into a statewide leader in sexual health, offering services that include PrEP and PEP, HIV care, STI testing and treatment, gender-affirming care, and more.
